cloud dough

June 9, 2012 by Erin 8 Comments

This stuff is GREAT!  It’s so soft and silky and fluffy.  It’s fun to touch.  And it molds really nicely.  And it’s cheap.  And the kids thought it was cool that I made it in one minute.  And it smells like babies.  🙂

For only a few bucks, the kids have been entertained for hours!  What a bargain!

Cloud Dough Recipe
8 parts flour
1 part baby oil

For one batch….
Baby oil from our dollar store equaled one cup.  $1
I already had flour.  (but if i didn’t …$2)
I bought two big containers at the dollar store to keep it in.  $2

Mix it all up with your hands.  I was tempted to add less flour, but I’m glad I didn’t.  That eighth cup really made it extra fluffy and soft.

Take it outside and let the kids have at it.  It’s pretty messy, so I think outside is the way to go!  They’ve played with it a few times, and at least an hour each time!  We just keep it in the sealed container and so far it’s still perfect for over a week now.

That looks like so much fun, and I love the photo of the kids. They’re certainly enjoying it. 🙂

Very fun. So does it keep getting crumbly or does it come together like play dough after working with it a bit? Any thoughts on coloring g it? Looks like your kids are enjoying it. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks! I hadn’t really thought of coloring it, but that would be fun! Maybe I would try to add food coloring to the baby oil and color that first? I kind of like that it’s white since it is so light and fluffy and called cloud dough. I might add glitter actually! Or colored glitters. Hum. It does not come together like play dough after working with it. You can mold a piece with your hands or a cup, and then smash it and it crumbles. It’s so weird and fun. I like that it is something different than play dough. Have fun. Let me know if you color it and how it turns out.

I love this! My kids are older than yours, but I still think they’ll get a real kick out of it. We’re going to have to try it.

that looks like so much fun!! I’ve been thinking about trying to make my own kinetic sand… not sure if it will work as well as this fun dough, but pinning to try!

[…] — about 8 parts flour to 1 part oil. I added gold glitter to make it pretty. Most people use baby oil, as here, but I find that cooking oil gives the same results. It’s moldable but crumbly and soft.  […]
