The bird and I did an easy little project about a week or two ago. We planted a grass-a-pillar! It is so cute. Lucie calls her Mrs. Sprout. (I love the way she says sprout.) We have been talking about the garden we will have this summer and reading a lot of books about plants and sprouts so this was the perfect project.
First, I put a cup or two of soil in a bowl. Then, I let Lucie scoop out 3 or 4 tablespoons of grass seed from a bag and dump it into the bowl. Then she stirred it all up. Very fun for her.Next, she scooped the mixture into an egg carton which I had cut into a 4 sectioned piece and drew a face on.
And last, she got to water it. She did this everyday for the next week. (She loved reminding me that she had to water Mrs. Sprout.)
After a few days Mrs. Sprout grew some tiny hair, which was VERY exciting for the bird! She also quite enjoyed showing Mrs. Sprout to everyone who stepped foot in our house. And this is how she looks now. Lucie likes petting her.
Also, here a few pics of the kids playing outside yesterday. I am a little bit afraid that the bean will fall through the bottom of the car, but he loves it so much!
I think you should buy an alpaca to keep in your backyard along with some cool chickens. Then you would have fresh eggs, yarn to make clothes and vegetables from your soon to be garden. That’s what I think :)Bec
we did a planting project the other week, too. I forgot to post it, but I think I should. thanks for the reminder!
What wonderful memories for Lucie the bird. Way to go Mom.
