drive-in movie night

January 8, 2012 by Erin 2 Comments

I first saw this idea on……..wait for it………Pinterest.  Shocker.  I know.  🙂
Seriously cute idea.  The original post came from Homemaking Fun.  She did it all up with a cool concession stand, printed tickets and invited friends.  Adorable!!
Mine was more spur of the moment.  As I was cleaning and un-Christmas-ing (could be a word) the house last week I ran across these two identical large boxes that we didn’t need anymore.  Aha!  I knew exactly what they would be perfect for!  Good ole’ Pinterest.
First, I covered them with paper – just wrapped them like a big present.  Then, we cut the head and tail lights out of yellow paper and the tires out of blue and orange (wished I had black).  I glued a paper plate to the inside as a steering wheel.  I left the front flap on as a windshield.  The bird drew a happy face on it.   Like on Cars – the movie.  🙂   They loved decorating them and took it very seriously.

We did dinner, bath and jammies.  The longest wait ever.
Then it was FINALLY time for the movie.  They were so excited!  Beside themselves actually. They frantically ran around grabbing pillow pets, blankets and animals – basically filling the cars with all their stuff.  We all got cozy and watched Tangled and ate popcorn.  Fun night!
They still use the cardboard cars.  They push each other around the house in them.  Which is a pretty fun game to watch.  They park them and everything.  They fill them up with all their stuff daily.  And they still sit in them everyday during T.V. time.  haha.  Fun, easy, basically free, and still going strong over a week later.  I would say it was a winner.   🙂  Try it.
