I was invited to try the BRAND NEW, first Cincinnati-Style Vegetarian Chili this week at Gold Star! It’s hard to believe this is the first ever Cincy Style Vegetarian Chili?! Why did it take so long? Poor vegetarians! They’ve been missing out on all the Cincy chili goodness that most of us can’t live without.
Well, no longer! Thanks to Gold Star Chili, Executive Development Chef Ryan Miller and months in the test kitchen….we now have Vegetarian Cincinnati Style Chili! YAY! And, good news for all my gluten-free friends….this amazing chili is also GLUTEN and SOY FREE!
Before we ordered, we got to try and see if we could tell which chili was regular and which was vegetarian. A good old fashioned taste test. Love it. Annnnd we failed! I was so sure of my answer and so shocked that I was wrong, I assumed they had accidentally switched the bowls by mistake.
So, we tried our friends bowls. And guessed again. And yep, WRONG again. How embarrassing.
It looks AND tastes JUST like Gold Star’s original secret family recipe. It’s meat, soy and gluten free so it’s ideal for vegetarians, vegans, the Lenten season, or anyone just trying to shave off some calories and fat in their diets.
They really got the texture and flavor right on. Gold Star’s chili has a bit of kick and a bold flavor that other Cincy chili places don’t. And they nailed it. See if you can taste the difference. The texture is perfect because Chef Ryan used a Non-GMO Pea Protein called Beyond Meat, as the meat replacement. It is amazing stuff.
You can get this spectacular stuff on any menu item, just like the regular chili. Do you like your chili on a 3, 4, or 5 way? Or do you prefer a coney, a salad or chili cheese fries?
I had mine the best way….the chili cheese sandwich. OH yum! I had one with original chili and one with the new vegetarian chili. And I can honestly tell you that I couldn’t tell a difference. And I was really, really trying.
The Chili Mac is back! And, it’s cheese perfection.
You can never go wrong with a classic three way.
You must try the Garlic Parmesan Fries while you are there. Please. Do it. You will be glad that you did.
I got to try my hand at making a three way. That was fun! I didn’t do too badly.
Gold Star is looking really cool inside these days, with high ceilings, cozy booths and an updated open kitchen.
