The bean LOVES his paci. He calls it a papi.
He’s always been an EXCELLENT sleeper. I mean super, duper. The best.
From the day he was born, all he needed was a swaddle and a paci and he was out.
Then, as he grew, all he needed was his snoogie (blanket) and his paci = out.
All I had to do was put him in the crib with his snoogie and paci and he would just fall asleep.
I could put him anywhere and in any one’s house. No tears, no whining, no discussion. Just sleep.
I figure God was blessing me because the bird has been the exact opposite of all those things. 🙂
(And she refused the paci – so getting rid of one is all new to me.)
But, then about 6 months ago we noticed his teeth were growing in kinda funny. The dentist told us that he sucks the beloved papi too hard and it was narrowing his palate. Nothing serious that wouldn’t fix itself, but we had to say goodbye to the paci, sooner rather than later.
But….. I’m a sucker.
I listened to him cry and wail for his papi in his crib for the first time ever. AND for a whole entire nap!
Um, yeah, he got the thing back. 🙂
Well, that was months ago.
Yesterday, out of the blue, Kevin decided was THE day. I was working and he was home. He didn’t give Sam the paci for his nap. Which he cried through.
But, then the ball was rolling. We couldn’t very well just give it back to him at night. (well, I could.)
So, I decided night time had to be a big deal.
I got some balloons from Chick-fila’s kids night! Score.
I asked Sam if we could tie his very last papi to the balloons and then he could let it go. We could watch it float to the sky. He thought this was a fantastic and fabulous idea.
So, after baths and jammies, we went outside for the ‘ceremony!’ haha
When it came time, he wasn’t sure about it, and he was sad, but he did it.
And he went to sleep with no papi.
