Hi all! It’s Emily from Nap-Time Creations again… I’m happy to be here today sharing this easy baby blanket sewing tutorial. This is a super simple sewing project that only takes a few hours and makes an amazing gift for any new baby. I love making blankets and creating baby blanket patterns to share. Today’s blanket is one of the easiest and quickest ones to make, but it still has a great wow factor and will be loved by whoever receives it. Let’s get started!
You will need:
1 & 1/4 yard of two coordinating fabrics and yarn that matches. I think it looks best to have one print and one solid.
I like to use a bit more than a yard so that the blanket is square {ish}
Place the two fabrics right sides together and sew around the outside with a simple straight stitch. Use a 1/2 inch seam allowance. I round the corners as I’m sewing. Leave a gap for turning.
Pull your blanket through the gap and push out the edges {iron if you like} Pin the gap and sew, continue sewing around the entire outside of the blanket. You can use a simple straight stick or a more decorative stitch from your machine.
I used a loopy stitch and added a label as well.
Now you need to sew the blanket together at several places in the middle. We will do this with yarn ties. If one of your materials has a print, find something in the pattern you can use. I choose the birdhouse with the flowers and tied the yard in the hole over each one.
Use a needle large enough for the yarn. From the top side of the blanket, sew the yarn down, then back up.
Tie the yarn and pull it tight. I did all the grey flower houses… if you don’t have a print to follow measure out and tie every 8-10 inches in a grid pattern.
and that’s it!! Easy right! It took me about 30 mins to tie up all the bird houses, which was faster than I expected.
You did it! If you make one of these I would love to see a photo… if you like to sew baby blankets here are few other tutorials to check out.

Wow, these are really cute! And I think even I could do this! And I once broke 2 sewing machine needles in one home-ec class in 8th grade, lol!
Thank you so much! My 6 year old wanted something to replace her baby blanket and these instructions were simple and easy to follow. Thank you so much! I got it done in under 2 hours 🙂
