I’ve shared this little tip once before in the middle of a recipe.
But, I think it deserves it’s own post for those who might have missed it.. 🙂
Bacon!
We really don’t eat much bacon (or pork) around here. And when I do buy bacon for our occasional BLT’s, I buy the uncured kind. No added nitrates. Sans preservatives. It makes me feel better.
But…….
….sometimes you just need a little bacon.
For a dip to take to a party.
Or a baked potato.
Or a salad.
Or a recipe.
I find lots of yummy looking recipes that call for two strips of bacon or some silly small amount like that.
I hate to buy a whole big package of bacon (the uncured is kind is about 6 bucks for 12 oz!) just for a few pieces.
Plus I hate the smell of bacon in the house (unless I am eating it) So, I hate to cook just a few pieces just for a dip or potato.
Enter the salad bar.
This little baby cost me just 63 cents! And it had over 1/2 a cup of bacon bits.
How great is that?
So, if you’re ever in need of just a little bacon for a recipe or a party…..Don’t over look the salad bar at the grocery store. They usually charge by weight. And cooked bacon is LIGHT! (Although, it won’t make you light – haha)
Ideally I would like to buy a package of the uncured kind, cook it, crumble it and keep it in the freezer for the times when I just need a little. But, I’ve never gotten around to thinking that far ahead yet!

Great tip! Bacon bits add yummy flavor and crunch to our meals without the full load of “bad bacon baggage.”
