Rediscovering Hofbräuhaus Newport

Have you ever been to the Hofbräuhaus in Newport, Kentucky?  (Or, maybe you’ve been to the one in Germany?) The Kentucky location is the very first authentic Hofbräuhaus in America, modeled after the legendary 400+ year-old Hofbräuhaus in Munich, Germany!

I’m not really sure why, but we haven’t been to this place in a long, long time.  It’s not far from my house and I remember we quite liked it when we tried it.  We brought out of town guests with us and it was a great time.  But it just hasn’t been on our radar.  But, let me tell you, it is now!!

I was invited to a menu tasting this weekend and I can’t wait to take the whole family back.  As soon as possible.  It’s right up our alley!  Music, sausages, schnitzel, pretzels, and beer (I mean, bier)!!  What’s not to like!?

First of all, the place is enormous!  So, even if it looks crowded, it’s no problem. The rooms are big and the tables are long, perfect for large groups and big parties.  Actually even with a small group, it would feel like a party.  It’s so much fun!  From the traditionally decorated rooms and live music, to the beer freshly brewed on-site, and of course the excellent German food, Hofbräuhaus Newport is a memorable experience for all!

I can’t wait to return.  The food was fabulous.  To start….get the big pretzel!  It’s perfectly sharable and soft and chewy.  Plus it comes with “Obatzda” Cheese, Sweet Bavarian Mustard, and Signature Homemade Bier Cheese!  We also got to try the fried pickles, Sauerkraut Balls and potato pancakes.  You can’t go wrong with any of them.

I know my kids will love the Pretzel Sandwich full of Black Forest Ham and Swiss Cheese served on a Pretzel Bun and topped with Signature Homemade Bier Cheese.  (I might eat a stick if I could dip it in the Bier Cheese!)

And my husband (thinks he) is a sausage connoisseur.  So he’ll be all about the Wurstplatte which has THREE wursts….Grilled Bierwurst, Bratwurst, and Frankfurter and served with Mashed Potatoes and Imported Sauerkraut.

It’s the Schnitzel all day long for me!  A Classic breaded Pork Cutlet fried crisp and golden brown. Served with German Potato Salad, Fried Cabbage, and Cranberry Sauce.  They even have it as a sandwich!  WHAT!?

The Homemade Dunkel Bourbon Glaze was tasty on salmon and chicken, too.  You can’t get something bad.  It was all great.  Even the salad was over the top with crispy onions and steak and blue cheese!  YUM!

Hungry yet?  I’ll can’t wait to go back for the food but I know my husband will be there for ‘The Craft Bier of Bavarian Kings’!  They take it seriously!  The “bier” is brewed fresh onsite, and follows the Bavarian purity law using only hops, malt and water, and has been brewed the same way since 1589!!

“Our beer is brewed using original recipes handed down by the Duke of Bavaria, over 400 years ago. A Brew Master oversees the brewing of our four all year round beer varieties, plus our seasonal specialties like Oktoberfest, Maibock, Pilsner and Hefe Weizen Dunkel.”

I think it will be so fun to check out one of the Keg Tapping Celebrations they have for the Monthly Seasonal Bier.

“Be the first to try out our newest Bier each month! Join us for our Keg Tapping Celebrations of the Seasonal Beers the last Wednesday each month at 7 pm. We have the ceremonial keg tapping parade and you can get a sample of our newest bier! Bring the entire family and get ready for a great time.”

So, if you didn’t have the Hofbräuhaus Newport on your radar, either, you should!
