Top 5 Sweet Stops in Butler County, Ohio

July 20, 2018 by Erin 2 Comments

We recently went on a little mini-vacation to Butler County, Ohio and it was such a blast.  We did all kinds of fun things and basically ate our way through the county.  If you haven’t ever visited….you need to put it on your list NOW!

Here are our 5 Favorite Sweet Stops.  Don’t miss them!

  1.  The Cone

This place was amazing and so much fun!  This family owned business has been making amazing, premium ice-cream since 1973.  And the fabulous cone-shaped building opened in 1995. This quirky eye-catching building brings people from far and wide.  This place is all about families.  They have large indoor and outdoor sitting areas, an arcade game room and a kiddie ride area.  This landmark really brings the whole community together.

Their #1 selling cone is the orange & vanilla twist. And it is fabulous.  I wish I had another one right now.  They also offer soft serve Cone-made strawberry ice cream with REAL strawberries – NO artificial flavor!  YUM.  They also have a drive through and food trucks, in case you just need to get that famous orange twist on the go.

Hours and Location

6855 Tylersville Rd, West Chester, Ohio 45069,

Monday-Thursday 11:00am-9:30pm

Friday-Saturday 11:00am-10:00pm

Sunday 12:00pm-9:30pm

2.  Karma in the Kitchen

Oh man.  I wish everyone could visit this quaint chocolate shop.  It’s owned and operated by the sweetest lady in the universe.  And her name is Karma!!  How flipping cool is that?!  She says she sells artisan chocolates, buttery caramels and life changing fudge!  And it’s all true.  We got to check out all of her gorgeous chocolates.  They were almost too pretty to eat.  Like little sweet, spectacular works of art.  But eat them, we did. We tried to savor each one for the unique treats that they were….but devoured might be a more accurate description.  So, so good.  This lady can make ANYTHING out of chocolate.  Check out the tool set.  ALL CHOCOLATE!  What?!  She’s like a chocolate wizard.

Karma has been in the kitchen since she was old enough to pull a chair up to the counter.  She’s the wife and mother of 5 sons and routinely uses baked goods to win the favor of her  brood.  She won mine!  She was a professional baker in a former life and now enjoys baking in smaller batches and ordering desserts at restaurants and calling it “research”!!  I love this lady!  Chocolate lover or not….you need to check this shop out.

3.  Henry’s Candy Company

Family owned and operated, Henry’s Candy Company will bring you right back to your childhood.  (Or your parent’s childhood, depending on how old you are!!)  My kids thought they were in heaven.  I don’t think they’ve ever been to an old fashioned candy store before.  They thought it was fabulous that they could ask for samples of all the different kinds of sweets.  The inside of the shop is really neat with retro but modern decor and super cool light fixtures.

Henry’s has gummies in every flavor and shape you could imagine.  Even green army men!!  All of their candy is made in the USA and always fresh.  My dad’s favorite ‘French Burnt Peanuts’ were there.  So we picked up a very, fresh bag of those.  They really had it all!  Giant jaw breakers, chocolates, a whole rainbow of jelly beans, lots of novelty candies and all the affordable sweet tooth satisfaction you could need.  In fact, if they don’t have your favorite candy, they will try and find it, order it and have it for you next time!  It was a really cool candy shop!

Hours and Location

243 High Street Hamilton OH 45011

Monday – Saturday 11am-6pm

4.  The Donut Trail

What can I saw about the Donut Trail?!  It’s a really, fun, sweet and indulgent trail to take with your family and friends. This is number 4 on our list, but really it’s 4-15 because there are TWELVE mom-and-pop donut shops on the donut trail!  That’s right. 12!  So, start early.  And bring people!  Grab your map and passport and get to tasting.  You’ll love it.  Donuts bring people together!  And all the donuts we tasted were unique, melt-in-your-mouth, sweet treats.  You don’t have to do the whole trail in one day.  Break it up.  Make a trip or two or three.  But you get a sweet t-shirt when you finish!  Check out my whole post about the Butler County Donut Trail here.  Everything you need to know!

Hours and Location

Each shop is varied.

Always call for hours.

5.  Bagger Dave’s

So, this spot is a regular restaurant.  They call it a tavern, actually.  A tavern serving distinctive prime-rib burgers, Belgian-style, hand-cut fries and local, American, craft beers.  So, why is on this list you ask?  Well, I included it on this sweet list….because they have some very special sweet treats.  First of all, they make their own soda/pop/coke.  (whatever you call it.)  They have CRAFT SODA!  What?!  They are all made with real cane sugar and they are fabulous.  We tried the orange cream and the black-cherry cream.  Delicious.

They also use award-winnering Ashby’s Ice Cream in all of their hand dipped shakes and floats.  Floats made with this award winning ice cream and craft soda…..YES PLEASE!

The other sweet treat that we found came out with our meal.  They offer hand-cut sweet potato chips as one of your side options.  Annndd you can choose to dip those babies in honey cinnamon salt dipping sauce or warm caramel!!  Yeah.  My kids thought this was just the best.  And it was.

They offer a wide variety of amazing prime rib burgers that are fresh locally sourced from 100% grain-fed cattle with no fillers or preservatives.  And delicious appetizers like fried pickled green tomatillos.  YUM!  Check out this menu.  I want to try it all.

And bonus.  Every Sunday and Wednesday the kids meals are only $2.95!!
