Hi Bird and Bean readers! I’m happy to be here again with another sewing tutorial. Today I’m sharing a braided cowl sewing tutorial. Its super easy and could even be done with a bit of hand-sewing if you don’t have a machine.
I love how light and fresh it is! I think this cowl will be great as I transition my wardrobe to spring.
Alright, let’s get sewing! You will need 1 yrd of 54″ wide fabric. If your fabric isn’t so wide your cowl will just be tighter…
Cut 3 {8 x width of fabric} strips.
Fold in half and sew with right sides together. I serged the edge you could also zig zag. {If you don’t have a machine you can just skip this step. Turn long tubes right side out.
Now, secure one end of each long piece and braid loosely.
When you get to the end, create a circle and check to make sure that the braiding is exactly as you want it.
Now, match up the ends on both side.
Pin the ends together. I stuck on side in-side the other and pinned.
Sew across each strip. You could also just add a few hand stitches here to keep it all together.
And there you have it! Your very own Braided Cowl… using a very easy sewing tutorial.
And today over on my blog I’m sharing another fabulous free cowl pattern. A color blocked knit cowl pattern. Stop by and say hello! Please let me know when you pop over, I’d love to say hi!

This looks great. I have a question. What is the fabric that you used for your scarf? Is it Knit or cotton? Thanks Trish
