simple sugar free lemonade

April 4, 2012 by Erin 5 Comments

I love anything to do with lemons.  I squeeze them on EVERYTHING!  I’m seriously not in danger of getting scurvy anytime soon.
After reading this post at New Nostalgia about the amazing health benefits of drinking lemon water every morning, I knew I wanted to try and incorporate that into my routine.  You should read it.   It’s one of her most popular posts of all time.  She spells it out so nicely, it’s just easier to go to her blog to read the benefits!  You won’t be sorry.  It’s just so good for you!
And it’s so refreshing.  I look forward to it.  The kids even love it.
Sometimes however, I’m in the mood for something sweet.
That’s when I make lemonade.  Sugar Free Lemonade.  But not with nasty chemical sugar substitutes….I use a little herb called stevia.  Sometimes stevia can taste kind of funny (too sweet) in certain things, but in this lemonade, it’s just right!  Perfect.
Sugar Free Lemonade
6 organic lemons (I buy a bag at Trader Joe’s for 1.99)
Stevia.  I add about a teaspoon, but you can add more or less to taste.
Water.
That’s it, two ingredients (I’m not counting water!)  Sometimes I make a huge container of it.  Sometimes a small one.  Depends on how many lemons I have and how lemony I want it!
I’ve even added a grind or two of sea salt on occasion.  It makes it taste like gatorade and then we get some minerals too.

If I have a hankering for fizz – I pour it over sparkley water and ice for a pop (soda) like drink.

There are all kinds of ways to enjoy this refreshing beverage!
Amy at New Nostalgia recently posted a recipe for a fresh lime soda using agave nectar that looks amazing.  We share the love of citrus drinks (and Trader Joe’s).  I will be trying that one next.
Drink up!

I use raw agave nectar in place of stevia, and LOVE it. You should try it!
