the bluegrass skirt society gets crafty

April 14, 2010 by Erin 2 Comments

My book club met on Monday night. This month we decided to get crafty. We made these seasonal blocks that I saw here. Whimsikel found the idea on this site and changed it up a little bit. She did the work of reading through comments on the original site to come up with all 60 words you can make with only 10 blocks!! I just love it. My dad was gracious enough to get the wood and cut it into blocks for us. Thanks Dad! That saved a bundle – because the blocks were $1 each at Hobby Lobby and we each needed 10! Wow. So, then all we needed were letter stickers and paint and brushes. The stickers were kind of spendy but we all chipped in. Times like this I totally wish I had a Cricut! What a wonderful machine. Someday – perhaps. Ahh.
Our blocks turned out really cute and we had fun making them. Love crafty girls night. I mean book club.

Block One: H Y E D
Block Two: A C R S
Block Three: R P E T
Block Four: V N L O
Block Five: E O M D
Block Six: S M K I
Block Seven: T F B W
Block Eight: U A G L
Block Nine: P J I H
Block Ten: F P S C

Words you can create with the blocks….

Harvest , Hope, Welcome , Monster, Faith , Mother, Family , Father, Spooky , Dream, Friends , Easter, Winter, Lucky, Summer , Love , Spring , Santa, Autumn, Glory, Fall , Romance, Freedom, Pumpkin, Blessed , Frosty, Snow , School, Home, Birthday, Happy, Merry , Fairy, Fairies , Jolly, Flowers , America, Wishes , Wish, Flake, Hearts, Christ, Jesus, Bloom, Flag, Irish, Sun, Swim, Pool, Ghost(s), Witch(es), Vampire, Fright, Thanks, Leaf, Treats, Turkey, Jewels, Cuddle, Pillow, Party, Heart, Smile, Wonder

First, we painted them. I think we probably should have sanded them first, but we didn’t and they all turned out just fine. Then you stick on the letters. I like how the different fonts look, but you could use all the same. Must have wine – obviously.

but not too much wine. 🙂 hehehe

Thanks Dad!
