eggs in a nest

You can call them whatever you want. I’ve heard them called ‘eggs in a basket’, ‘chicken in a nest’, ‘eggs in a frame’, ‘bulls-eyes’, and now even ‘toad in a hole‘ (thanks to Amy at New Nostalgia).

I love them. They have them on the menu at Cracker Barrel with yummy sour dough bread and it’s what I always want to order. They’re so good.
Sometimes I flip them to cook the other side and sometimes I don’t. Depends on how runny I’m feeling my yolk that day. 🙂 Plus it is easy to use any shaped cookie cutter to make a holiday seem more fun. You could even use a number or a letter for a birthday! You might want to scramble the egg first if you want to fit it into a thin cookie cutter shape.
I made a heart-shaped themed ‘breakfast for dinner’ on Valentine’s Day. Mainly because breakfast is the easiest meal to make pink, red and heart-shaped. But, also because there’s no way I would be able to get that together on a work day for actual breakfast and enjoy it. 🙂
So, for dinner we had pink heart-shaped blueberry pancakes (with sprinkles – why not), heart-shaped sausage patties, strawberries, and of course heart-shaped ‘eggs in a nest’. And I bought a special treat for our drink…..strawberry milk! I was surprised when we opened it and poured some in a glass that it wasn’t pink. Good job Horizon on keeping extra artificial stuff out. I had wine….what?….. that’s red! 🙂

*Crack an egg into each hole.
*Season with salt and pepper.
*Let set up a little.
