pink salt

I’m always looking for EASY ways to replace the chemically processed and artificially refined things our life (and especially my kitchen) with healthier alternatives.

We try not to use a ton of salt around here – but it IS in just about every recipe ….and what is popcorn without salt? So we do use it pretty much daily. For a while now I’ve been using Himalayan pink salt. I first read about it and it’s benefits years ago and had always wanted to get some. I ended up seeing it in a specialty food shop while on vacation a few years ago. And I bought it. (It’s kind of expensive and hard to find ….. and when I’m on vacation I find it way easier to spend money on things I wouldn’t normally buy.) 🙂 It has lasted us until just recently. I had been on the look out for it in stores around here to replace my dwindling bag. I saw another big bag at HomeGoods (of all places) for about 12 dollars – that was pretty reasonable considering how long it lasts.

Then I saw this handy little grinder at Trader Joe’s! ….. for 2 dollars! Dang-it! I LOVE THAT PLACE!

So, why pink salt……..

It has a rich mineral content that includes over 84 minerals and trace elements such as: calcium, magnesium, potassium, copper and iron. This salt is recognized for its beautiful pink color, high mineral content, and its therapeutic properties. Regular consumption of Himalayan Pink Salt provides essential minerals, trace elements, balances electrolytes, supports proper nutrient absorption, eliminates toxins, balances the body’s pH, normalizes blood pressure, and increases circulation and conductivity. It can also assist with relief from arthritis, skin rashes, psoriasis, and flu and fever symptoms.

I sometimes put a few grains in my water bottle because it helps restore pH. It is cool stuff. Plus, I figure if we are going to use salt – it might has well be one with minerals. It’s a very easy change toward healthier living. And it’s pretty!

Green Smoothie Girl has an interesting little page about it and a link where you can buy it, too.

Does anyone else use it? Where do you buy yours?
