yarn wreaths

August 6, 2011 by Erin 11 Comments

Our craft club book club “The Bluegrass Skirt Society” got crafty again this month. We were inspired by this fun etsy shop. We got together for some wine, food, chit chat and crafting. Each of us made a very cool wreath. I find it interesting that each of our wreaths kind of looks like us. If you know us, you could easily match us up to our wreaths. There are a million variations you can make and it’s so easy and fun.

First you buy a Styrofoam wreath form and your choice of yarn and start a’ wrapping. This is easy – but also time consuming…..do it while you watch TV. It took about an hour to wrap the wreath. Trial and error taught us that you don’t have to be careful about lining up each pass of the yarn evenly….just be messy…..it will all work out. Also – it doesn’t really matter if you get the rounded wreath forms (like shown in my pic) or the squared ones….they both turn out cute.

Just tie it off and start wrapping until you don’t see anymore of the form.

Then remove the cat from your yarn wrapped wreath and make some cute flowers out of felt and glue them on. Mine were spirals cut from felt and then wrapped up and glued on. But there are a million ways to cut out flowers from felt – just google it.

Some look like hydrangea..which I LOVE!

Then…..Bedazzle as you wish. We used pearls, sequins, rhinestones, even feathers.
They look great indoors or out.

Oh my gosh I adore!!! Each one is lovelier than the last and it’s so facinating to see all the variety. I want to be in your club! Can you tell me how many things of yarn you need for each wreath? Is one enough, in general? Thank you for joining us at A Crafty Soiree! I hope to see you next week too!

Oh my! These wreaths are all over these crafting blogs haha. There are some cool ones for Halloween though, I saw one that was supposed to represent Sulley from Monsters Inc.

Thanks for all the nice comments guys! In general one thing of yarn was enough to wrap each wreath. I used closer to two things on mine, trying to make it look fuller….and it didn’t really make a difference. I should have stopped at one. You could just use a smaller wreath form if you wanted a fuller look – but we all liked the larger wreaths.
