I’m always looking for EASY ways to replace the chemically processed and artificially refined things our life (and especially my kitchen) with healthier alternatives.
We try not to use a ton of salt around here – but it IS in just about every recipe ….and what is popcorn without salt? So we do use it pretty much daily. For a while now I’ve been using Himalayan pink salt. I first read about it and it’s benefits years ago and had always wanted to get some. I ended up seeing it in a specialty food shop while on vacation a few years ago. And I bought it. (It’s kind of expensive and hard to find ….. and when I’m on vacation I find it way easier to spend money on things I wouldn’t normally buy.) 🙂 It has lasted us until just recently. I had been on the look out for it in stores around here to replace my dwindling bag. I saw another big bag at HomeGoods (of all places) for about 12 dollars – that was pretty reasonable considering how long it lasts.
Then I saw this handy little grinder at Trader Joe’s! ….. for 2 dollars! Dang-it! I LOVE THAT PLACE!
It has a rich mineral content that includes over 84 minerals and trace elements such as: calcium, magnesium, potassium, copper and iron. This salt is recognized for its beautiful pink color, high mineral content, and its therapeutic properties. Regular consumption of Himalayan Pink Salt provides essential minerals, trace elements, balances electrolytes, supports proper nutrient absorption, eliminates toxins, balances the body’s pH, normalizes blood pressure, and increases circulation and conductivity. It can also assist with relief from arthritis, skin rashes, psoriasis, and flu and fever symptoms.
I sometimes put a few grains in my water bottle because it helps restore pH. It is cool stuff. Plus, I figure if we are going to use salt – it might has well be one with minerals. It’s a very easy change toward healthier living. And it’s pretty!
Green Smoothie Girl has an interesting little page about it and a link where you can buy it, too.
Does anyone else use it? Where do you buy yours?
Whenever I am looking for strange things like that I always look at Homegoods. They always seem to have some lovely oddities :o) Pink salt, that is very girly of you!
On another note, Guess what… Joe said Annie and I could get some chickens in the spring! So now I need some details on where you got your supplies. I may wait until we get a shed for the back yard because it would be nice to put the coop out by it for some extra protection… anywho I was just excited he was all for it!
GUESS WHAT?!?!?! Brainerd Rd is gettting a Trader Joe’s!!! It will be just down the street!! My neighbor!!! YAY for Trader Joes with pink salt!!
Yeah for a new chicken owners! You can come over anytime and check out our set up. Hooray!
I’ve seen it several times in specialty kitchen shops; tiny containers for a steep price. Likewise our local co-op grocery has it in their deli section – same thing – tiny container and a big price. However while on vacation (what is it about vacations?) I saw it in an organic market for a huge bag, for less than what I’ve paid for the smaller container. No pretty packaging mind you, but a much more reasonable price! I’m going to look at our local organic grocer – perhaps they’ll have a similar deal…. – Dawn
