our burnt yard

July 18, 2010 by Erin 2 Comments

This is what our yard looked like when we came home from our trip.

Our crazy neighbor takes care of his yard like this…….He takes Roundup and sprays the heck out of the long grass that grows on his side of the fence. It does get pretty long because he only cuts his grass about once a month or so. And he never uses a weed whip – only ever Roundup…and a ton of it. I am sure he uses WAY too much. All the extra ends right up in the lake and contributes to the algae problem – because it kills the good flora in the lake. Thanks.
Anyway, a week or so after the Roundup has taken affect and the tall (like foot and a half tall) grass is all brown and crunchy. He then goes down the entire fence line with gasoline – soaking the still very tall – but now dead and dry grasses. Then, he steps back ……and lights it. Awesome.
He does all of this while wearing a half un-buttoned, button down, short sleeved shirt, fancy gold chains around his neck and a sweat band from the 70’s around his forehead. It would be really funny – except now two feet of our lawn is burnt and black. He says that 6 inches of our lawn is actually his anyway, that they put the fence in the wrong spot. So, really he is only burning his lawn. ๐Ÿ™ I guess it could be worse. But, it sure looks like our lawn from this side of the fence. Humm.
