Grow Something

April 22, 2014 by Erin 1 Comment

Why do you grow?  Everyone grows for a reason.  I have a few reasons.

I grow our veggie garden because I like to cook and I like to save money!  Having my own fresh veggies and herbs at my fingertips all summer is just so fun and rewarding.  I also grow our veggie garden for the kids. They love helping plant seeds and seedlings.  We plant, weed, water and harvest together.  They always gobble up the vegetables that they help grow.  Win. Win.  Hopefully I am also growing a love of home-grown ingredients and a life long skill that they can use when they are older.

I can’t wait until our garden is ready this year.  Here’s a picture from a few years ago.  Look at the sweet little baby Bird.  She’s so little!!

I also grow tradition.  I have a few plants from my Grandmother.  She LOVED gardening and mostly grew flowers.  Her yard was always amazing and impeccable.  Before she passed away, my mom dug up some of her plants and replanted them in our yard.  When I got married and bought a house, she separated them and planted some in my yard.   So, now every Spring I am reminded of my sweet Grandma.  Here are the purple and yellow Japanese Irises and Lilies coming up this week.  Look at them just poking out of the ground.  In a few weeks they will be GORGEOUS!   I can’t wait.

I use plant food every time I replant something or move it to a new location in my yard.  We don’t plant without Miracle-Gro in the hole first.  I know that my flowers are the prettiest they can be.  I have used Miracle-Gro Organic Choice in my vegetable garden for the last few years, too.  My tomatoes and peppers and zuchini are huge and tasty.  All my veggies benefit from the plant food and I have big beautiful plants every year.
