square foot gardening

I love, love, love this book.

It’s called Square Foot Gardening and it ROCKS. I’ve been wanting to garden this way for a few years and finally this year – I did it. Don’t the plants look so wonderful? It’s all pretty easy once you get the right soil mixture. The book tells you how to do it all. The bird is a very helpful little gardener and loves to water the veggies with me. Right now I have marked the plants with plastic forks that I wrote on with a Sharpie…but someday I will have these cool plant markers. They seem very expensive since I need a lot of them, so I will be making my own. I am in the process of stockpiling silverware from yard sales for this exact project. Stay tuned for that! I just love them – such a clever idea for plant markers. 🙂
Here is what we have planted this year…
Broccoli
Red peppers
Yellow peppers
Green peppers
Jalapenos
Sweet banana peppers
Eggplant
Zucchini
Yellow Squash

Cherry Tomatoes

I’m so excited about our little garden. You can see my cool rain barrel that I got for Mother’s Day. It has a planter on top. I just love it. In the background near the roses you can see our Earth Machine composter. Such an easy way to compost. I can’t wait to start cooking with all the things from our sweet little garden. I just love this side of our house. It’s mine. 🙂
