Quick and Simple After-School Trail Mix

September 20, 2016 by Erin Leave a Comment

“This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Post Consumer Brands. All opinions are entirely my own.”

I feel like my kids are always hungry.  Does anyone else have this problem?  I mean, I feed them three square meals a day, but they still ask for snacks ….con.stant.ly.  “Mom, can I have a snack?”  “Mom, can I have a snack?”  “Mom, can I have a snack?”  Ahhh!  Maybe they do it out of boredom or even out of habit at this point?  (Or to annoy me possibly?)  We are actually involved in a lot of activities, so I suppose it could be legitimate hunger.  They might be growing or something.  #stopgrowing.  I like to keep quick and simple snacks on hand for after soccer practices, after karate, after jump rope and after school.  You know, just in case.  🙂

Both of the kids (and the husband) really love this quick and simple after-school trail mix!  It’s what they ask for daily.  It’s easily become one of their favorite snacks.  They like it because it’s filling and fun.  Salty and sweet.  Crunchy and delicious.  And BIG bonus….It’s SIMPLE and I don’t have to bake anything!  WIN. WIN!  WIN!  (Because I HATE baking!)  I am not the “bake chocolate chip cookies for after school snack” mom.

Erin’s After-School Trail Mix

What you need:

  • Malt-O-Meal® Cinnamon Toasters
  • Chocolate covered raisins
  • Pretzel sticks
  • Peanuts

mix it up

What you do:

  1. Mix it all up and store in a zip top baggie.  Seriously.  Stinking.  Simple.  (I keep it in individual baggies, as well, for easy grab and go snacks.)

snack mix

You can easily make this trail mix your own by adding different ingredients that your family enjoys.  Like sunflower seeds or yogurt covered nuts or craisins.  Own it.  Add some dried fruit and mix with Golden Puffs cereal, instead.  YUM!  My kids love the Malt-O-Meal S’Mores cereal a lot, too.  It makes a really fun camping trail mix when mixed with other s’more ingredients like mini chocolate chips, mini marshmallows  and some animal crackers.  A camping favorite.   I always pick up our Malt-O-Meal cereal when I pop into Food Lion.

I really love all of the bagged Malt-O-Meal cereals.  We prefer them over boxed for many reasons.  First of all, they stay fresh way longer than boxed cereal because the bags are resealable!  I mean, how genius is that?  Resealable cereal bags!  So smart.  They have no high fructose corn syrup.  Plus, they’re less expensive.  So, you get great value and great taste and 34 delicious flavors of cereal to choose from!  They have something for every person and every taste.  Imagine the trail mix possibilities!  What’s not to love about that?

Grab yourself some bagged Malt-O-Meal (MOM – get it?!) cereal at Food Lion and save some cash with this great in-store Catalina offer.  (offer ends on 9/30.)

That is a great deal!  My husband loves it when I buy a few flavors at a time, too, because he eats his cereal as a night time snack.

Check out more Malt-O-Meal recipes, fun and 34 family favorite flavors by clicking here.  There are so many great ideas for recipes.  Muffins, cookies, puddings, cakes, milkshakes and more.  There are even french toast and breakfast bar recipes there.  And I thought I was really thinking outside of the box with my trail mix.  hahah.  See what I did there?!  “Outside of the box!!”  Because it’s in a bag!  hahahaha.  Did it lose it’s humor because I explained it?  Sorry.  🙂
