We are always looking for creative and unique activities to do as a family or with friends.
So, when I had the opportunity to check out Breakout Cincinnati recently, I couldn’t wait!
I’d been noticing people posting about it here and there on social media, so I was very excited to try it!
What is Breakout Cincinnati?
OK. Good question. The idea is simple. You have 60 minutes to “breakout” of a themed room. It’s an escape game. The website describes it as a “life-sized game of twists and turns.” There are four rooms to choose from and they each follow a unique storyline.
You and your group have exactly an hour to escape the adventure that you chose by finding objects, following clues, cracking codes and solving puzzles. It’s part problem solving and part adrenaline….because there is a giant clock counting down the minutes in the corner!
Can you problem solve your way to freedom?
There are currently four rooms to choose from, with a 5th being added soon.
Your choices are The Kidnapping, Casino Royal, Museum Heist and Island Escape.
The Kidnapping is what we chose.
The kidnapping begins with you and your fellow captives waking up handcuffed and blindfolded in a strange room. With nothing but collective brainpower, hidden clues and 60 minutes on your side, you have to free yourselves before the kidnapper returns. A heart-pumping thriller from start to finish, you can expect a rush of non-stop fun.”
(You can scroll down to read descriptions of the other rooms and watch video clips on the website.)
So, first….a member of the team, your “game master” will take you back to the room, explain the rules and lock you in! They are also available to give clues if you get stuck. You get three clues for free, and if you need others you loose a MINUTE for each one!! Our game master was Michael and he was awesome!
They don’t explain too much prior to you entering the room. A little chat in the hallway, the game master leaves. And then the countdown begins. You have one hour! Looking at our room, you could tell things were probably clues, but nothing obvious really jumps out at you. It was all incredibly clever and full of surprises. The rooms are full of clues and are designed to lead you through. We would find ourselves in a nice groove with one clue leading to another and so on. That is, until we would get stuck! hahah. But, we did it! We broke out. With minutes left.
It was so much stinking fun!
Don’t forget to get a shirt and wear it proudly, but only if you breakout!
Mitch and Andy are the owners of Breakout Cincy and they are so nice. I’m so glad they brought this to Cincinnati! You can just tell it’s super fun place to work. Everyone was really great.
Take one glance at their Facebook page and you know how much fun they have. Dance-offs and contests and stuff. What a great place. You can tell that they love what they do.
