Rafting on the Pine River

We love Michigan.  Seriously.  We’ve been there every summer for the last five years.  I highly recommend spending a week of your summer in Michigan.

This last trip we made, we decided it was time to do some rafting.  We checked out Pine River Paddlesports in the heart of Michigan’s Huron-Manistee National Forest.  It was gorgeous.

The Pine River Paddlesport Center rents canoes, kayaks, rubber rafts and tubes on Michigan’s premier paddlesport rivers, the Pine and Big Manistee.  They operate the largest selection of rafts, kayaks and canoes in the Midwest!  Sweet!  They also have miles and miles of trails for hiking or biking (they rent bikes too!), a climbing wall, frisbee golf and a livery!

They also have a  very clean and very quiet private campground. No tent or RV….no problem, they have a cute and quaint cabin too as well as a gorgeous Pine River Vacation Rental home right on the banks of the Pine.

But, we were there for the rafting.  So, a-rafting we went.

We boarded our big blue raft.  They kids had lifejackets and the adults had cushions.  We felt completely safe because rafts are incredibly stable.  So, even if your kids are small they can experience river rafting with no fear of tipping.  We had a blast.

They have several access sites so you can easily plan a trip of almost any length.  We chose the popular 3-hour trip from Dobson to Peterson.

It was perfect for us.

We took our time and stopped a lot to explore the banks and forests.

We got out and looked for cool rocks.  We found a lot.  Our raft was definitely heavier on the way out.

We took our time and had a little hike. We were able to see some cool wildlife.  Neat little ducks, a few turtles, a snake and the mark of a beaver!?

We had a raft-side picnic lunch on a sandy bank.  I packed drinks and snacks to bring with us.  It was perfect day enjoying my family and Creation.

It’s a lovely, quiet and serene float.  It was just a gorgeous day.  Perfection.

The kids could move around in the raft if they wanted to.  It was really a stress free relaxing day.  My dad came with us, so the kids had a blast with Grandpa and Mom and Dad.

I loved every minute of it.
