We recently visited Lake Erie and Sandusky, Ohio. We’ve been there a few times in the last few years, because there’s so much to do and it’s only 4 hours from Cincinnati …. and because we love it. It’s the perfect little getaway. They have Cedar Point, the roller coaster capital of the world, and Kalahari, the world’s largest indoor water park. And we can’t get enough of those places! But, Lake Erie Shores and Islands has so many more adventures to be had.
So, this past visit we took the Jet Express to Kelleys Island and it was awesome!
Kelleys Island is one of the islands in Lake Erie and there’s no bridge to get there. You have to go by boat. So we grabbed our snacks and hopped on the Jet Express. It took less than 30 minutes and we were there. My kids loved it. It was so fast and takes you right by Cedar Point. Super cool views. My daughter smiled the whole time we were on the boat! She couldn’t get enough. Little adventure junkie!
The Jet Express is a series of four high-speed passenger-only catamarans that travel to Put-in-Bay village on South Bass Island and Kelleys Island. The Jet Express departs from downtown Port Clinton and Sandusky, Ohio, providing convenient, direct service to downtown Put-in-Bay and Kelleys Island.
The Jet Express guarantees you first-class service while onboard. Riding on Lake Erie’s only catamaran ferry, you will experience a sleek, stylish, and comfortable journey to your destination. In either our cushioned passenger lounges or our open-air decks, you can enjoy scenic views of Lake Erie and all 12 US islands, as well as several Canadian islands.
They have free a parking lot and then you can check schedules and purchase tickets at the window. The ferry boards about 5 minutes before the scheduled departure time. So, be there! They have an inside part of the boat with some tables and booths around the windows and then regular seating on the inside. We chose to sit on the top deck to enjoy the breeze and views. It was a lovely cruise through Lake Erie.
The Jet Express is a fun way to get to the different islands. They also offer other adventures and special late night trips on Friday and Saturday nights during the peak season. You can even visit Canada (bring your passport!) Be sure to check out the online schedule. Keep up to date with them on Facebook and Twitter.
Disclaimer: I visited as part of a media tour through Lake Erie Shores & Islands. Make sure you visit their webpage if you’re visiting for ideas and savings. They have a coupon card that I highly recommend. All opinions are my own.
