I made these DIY road trip trays for the Bird and the Bean, recently. We went on a long, long trip and are going to be in the car much longer than comfortable! (FYI – much longer than comfortable is any amount of time over about 15 minutes.) So, I knew I needed to prepare some fun games and unusual things to keep them occupied. We watched a lot of movies too, of course, but the 4 year old doesn’t like to sit through a whole movie without complaining of boredom! (So annoying. Even in a movie theatre. Uggg.)
Come on over to We Use Coupons where I am sharing the tutorial on how to make these handy little magnetic road trip trays. They were simple, fast and cheap. My favorite kind of project. 🙂
We used them as a snack table, art table, puzzle table, toy table, game table, whatever! So fun! They liked having their own tray and it worked out perfectly….and for only a dollar each! They fit in the middle between them when not in use, or in the net pockets on the backs of my seats.
I also printed some car bingo sheets from Moms Minivan and slipped them into clear page protectors. They kids played bingo for a lot longer than I thought humanly possible and loved erasing the dry erase markers and starting all over again, and again, and again!
I also print a copy of our trip from Map Quest and let the kids follow along as we drive.
They LOVE this.
Are you road tripping this summer?
