Did you know that the coconut is botanically classified as a seed. The largest known seed in existence, actually. Cool. 🙂 (I really like useless facts)
You can eat it, use it as an all over skin moisturizer, cook with it, bake with it, spread it like buttah!
I found this amazing list of 52 uses for Coconut Oil at Delicious Obsessions.
It has the simple, the strange and the downright odd. It’s a pretty great list and there are even more uses in the comments. You should check it out.

I’ve tried so many different kinds of coconut oil. Some from the regular old Kroger, Trader Joe’s (of course), the fancy health food store and Amazon. Some are better than others.
Here are some things that I like to look for.
Here are some things that I like to look for.
1. You want to make sure it’s organic, if you can.
2. Choose pure, virgin or extra virgin. (they mean the same) These are made from fresh coconuts and retains the naturally occurring phytochemicals.
3. Try to find unrefined, cold-pressed and non-hydrogenated.
4. Not expeller pressed. This oil has been refined more than cold pressed.
5. It should be pure white and have a mild coconut aroma and flavor.
6. Not RBD. This means refined, bleached, deodorized. It’s made from dried coconuts.
(However, regardless of the method of processing, all coconut oils contain essentially the same amount of health promoting medium chain fatty acids. These fatty acids are very heat resistant, unlike polyunsaturated oils, and are not harmed in processing, even when high temperatures are used. So, even RBD coconut oil is considered a healthy oil. It has a clear color and a lack of any taste or smell. Some people prefer this type for all purpose cooking because it doesn’t affect the flavor, but I like the taste of virgin coconut oil.)
The biggest drawback to virgin coconut oils are that they are more expensive.

My all time favorite coconut oil is the Gold Label from Tropical Traditions. It just tastes the best and for the best price. They always have some great sales going on. I love it. (They have a more refined (green label) version for those that don’t like the coconut flavor.)
I also like that Tropical Traditions is committed to time-honored traditional practices (old school, baby) and that it’s benefiting families in the rural areas of the Philippines where the coconuts grow. Their Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil is still produced by hand, using the wet-milling process of extracting the oil from fresh coconuts. Independent laboratory analysis shows this to be one of the highest quality coconut oils on the market, having the highest levels of antioxidants.

Good Luck! It’s so worth it! This stuff is AWESOME!
Even Dr. Oz likes it. 🙂
Note: If you’re allergic to coconut, chances are you’re not going to have a good experience using it. Your best bet is to just not use it to avoid any physical reactions an allergy may trigger. So sorry! That stinks!
