We made these fun silhouettes this week for my Mom and Dad for Grandparent’s Day. I chose a bike since they are bike riders, but you could easily do any shape at all.
Watercolor Silhouettes:
you need.
Thick paper, watercolor paper or card stock
painters tape
watercolors
What I did.
First I printed out a silhouette of a bike.
Then I cut up painters tape and did the best I could to copy it. 🙂
Next I just cut the page in half so that the bird and the bean would both have half of it.
Then I just let them have at it with the water colors. The bean kept going to black and brown and the bird liked to fill in each space a different bright color. Cute.
The only direction I gave was to fill the whole page. They really liked it.
Then, when they were finished I carefully peeled the tape off. (It ripped a little bit in one or two places because I pressed the tape on too hard to begin with. But, you can’t really tell.)
I put them in frames and there you have it. I really like the way they turned out. I enjoy that it’s one bike cut in two. Looks interesting since you can tell it’s one picture painted by two people. 🙂
It was a really easy project and came together fast. The kids painted for about 30 or 45 minutes. They really liked it ….and so did my parents.
Happy Grandparent’s Day to all you grandparents out there!

Oh I love it!!!! That is such a cute idea that I might have to borrow it.
Fun idea!
Great project, and oh the possibilities. I love that it looks like professional work when it’s all framed and finished.
What a great idea. This came out so well. I love it.
