sushi night

March 14, 2010 by Erin 2 Comments

We love sushi around here. Especially on Tuesday, because it’s half-off night at a local place that we like. We usually go there with Becky. She’s shy but you can see her in these pictures – kind of. Sadly, it was not Tuesday last night and I really felt like having sushi. The birdie calls it shoe-she. I think it’s funny that she holds the chopsticks in one hand and eats with the other. heehee. They even put a rubber band around them for the kids, so they pop open – but she still does it her way. Typical bird.

So, with a hankering for sushi and no money – I looked around my cabinet and low and behold -I had everything to make it. Humm. I’ve never made it before. I’ve heard it is hard and time consuming. But, I really, really wanted some. I found a recipe online and it didn’t seem too hard. So I tried it. I used brown short grain rice, avocado, cream cheese, cucumber, carrots and some crunchy fish left over from the night before. I think it was really tasty.

Here is the recipe I used, more or less. It was actually pretty easy. Not terribly time consuming, but the kitchen was a big mess when I was done. However, that’s pretty typical for every meal I make. Kevin even brought some for lunch today. I laughed because it makes me think of The Breakfast Club. When Bender makes fun of Claire for eating sushi during detention. I hope no one makes fun of Kevin today at lunch.

We have a cute wooden Melissa and Doug sushi set for the play kitchen. It’s really fun!! Sometimes the bean sits on the pieces and since they’re Velcro, he crawls around for hours with a sushi stuck to his bum. How adorable is that?

And, I couldn’t do a post about sushi with out using a picture of the sweet bean at Halloween. Sam-ushi. Yum.
Yeah – I know we are a little strange!
