Felt Leaf Garland

I saw bags of pretty felt leaves at the Dollar Tree recently and knew I had to do something with them.  I love felt and I.LOVE.FALL (I mean, really, who doesn’t??  Pumpkin Spice Latte anyone?)  I grabbed up two bags and headed home.  They’re called table scatter, which is a funny name, since I have bigger plans than just scattering them on my table.    At first I was thinking about making them into a wreath.  But I do have a cute  fall wreath and Halloween wreath already.    So, I decided to go with garland.

This project could not be simpler.  I mean seriously.  It cost me 2 bucks and 10 minutes of my time.  And I really love the way it turned out.

I used my sewing machine.  Typically I’m a strict non-sewing crafter.   There are so many amazing and creative crafters out there with awesome sewing projects.  I would love to learn and make them all.  But there seems to be a lot of measuring and pinning and cutting involved.  I like a more quick, instant gratification kind of craft.  Someday I will learn.  Maybe when I am old and feeble and have a much longer attention span.  Right now I can manage a sewing simple straight line, and that’s about it.  Luckily, a straight (ish) line is all you need for this project!

Threading the needle was actually harder than making this garland.  🙂  But, if you are an anti-seamstress or don’t have a sewing machine, you can still make your own cute garland.  You can just use hot glue and a thin ribbon.  It will be just as pretty!  I considered doing it that way at first, but decided to break out the sewing machine when I realized I was out of hot glue sticks!

What you need:

  • two bags of table scatter
  • a sewing machine  (or ribbon and glue)

What you do:

  • Gently feed your table scatter through your sewing machine, one at at time.
  • I didn’t make mine in a pattern.  I just made sure that there where not two of the same color next to each other.  You could do a pattern alternating between each color, but you will need another bag or table scatter because there are a lot more orange leaves in each bag.
  • I also didn’t face them all the same direction.  I like a more messy kind of look.  Kinda like how leaves really fall!
  • Done.  Hang it up, string it on your mantle, or even use it as a table runner.leaf-garland-2 leaf-garland-3 leaf-garland-5
