Here’s a cute and easy craft for ya. Hot rocks.
And it’s cheap. Actually I guess it’s free! Wowza.
Could be a fun Valentine’s Day project? You could draw hearts!
We made these for my dad for his birthday last week (and a few for me too!) They would be super cute as a paperweight. But, we’re going to use them in our garden and landscaping. A splash of color here and there. Dad’s going to put them in his outdoor fountain. They’re waterproof since they are covered in wax. 🙂
We used this same method when we made our Easter eggs last year.
It’s just so fun, I couldn’t wait to try it with rocks.
What you need:
* Clean Rocks
* An Oven
* Peeled Crayons
What you do:
Have the kiddos peel the crayons.
(They love this part. I mean, what is it about crayons that beg to be peeled?)
Place clean, dry rocks on a baking sheet. Place in hot oven. I put mine in at 350 for about 10 minutes. As long as they’re hot when you take them out it doesn’t really matter the temperature.
Warn the kids that the rocks are HOT! Really hot.
(Mine are 4 and 2 and they were really careful.)
Take a peeled crayons and just have at it. After you touch the crayon to the rock it takes just a second for it to start melting.
Then the crayon will glide over the rock and leave a bright and brilliant mark. If you hold it in one place long enough it will start to drip. Which is also a cool effect.
Let the wax dry and the rocks cool for an hour or so.
They end results are just so pretty.
I can’t wait to put them in outside in our landscaping and garden.
The bean made a cool Packer one.
He calls it his “football rock”.
I believe he thinks the Packers are the only team that play football! haha. Poor kid.
