Did you know that July is National Anti-Boredom Month? haha. Well, I think somehow my kids knew, because the, “Mom, I’m bored” started pretty soon after the fireworks ended! Stinkers.
I know that was not put here on earth to entertain my kids, but I do remember being bored in the summer sometimes, too. So, we made sure to put a “craft and project day” on our summer bucket list. (Obviously, I love crafts and projects too, so I was excited about this.)
I purposely planned to do our craft day towards the middle of summer, because in July, the heat and lack of a pool sometimes keeps us inside. I guess that’s why it’s national Anti-Boredom Month! I got all of my supplies at Dollar General for this one. It was actually hard to choose because they have so so many great options. They have a huge selection of craft supplies, water toys, and tons of project kits.
This Excavation Kit was awesome. It seriously kept them digging for well over an hour! (WITHOUT FIGHTING! That is amazing.) After they dug all the bones out, we put the dinosaur puzzle together. So cool. I did send them outside with it as soon as I realized it was going to get messy! And they used the leftover pieces of clay as sidewalk chalk when they were done. bahah.
I also got some good old fashioned coloring books and brand new crayons. No one can resist the lure of brand spanking new crayons. Not even me! They were at this for almost an hour. And then back for more when we were done with the other projects.
And thier favorite anti-bordom buster was only A DOLLAR. These cool posters were a serious hit and I almost didn’t buy them. Each pack came with three posters! FOR A DOLLAR! There are some serious summer savings available there. These posters were super cool. You peel off the yellow part to reveal a sticky shape and then you place the foil on top. The foil sticks to the sticker part and makes your poster so pretty. They LOVED this. This kept them busy for over an hour too. I think it was all the peeling. I did two loads of laundry (and put them away!) and I cleaned the kitchen and fixed dinner!! Amazing, I tell ya.
