finger print necklace

Here is a little Mother’s Day idea that’s really quick and simple. I made them last year for myself, my mom and my mother-in-law. I still wear mine and compliments on it every time I wear it, mostly from mom’s, but whatever. I like it. 🙂

What you need:
*Fimo, Sculptey or some other kind of oven bake-able clay.
(lots of colors to choose from at Hobby Lobby or Michaels – I chose white so it would look like the traditional plaster hand print art – but they even have silver, which might look really cool.)
*an oven
*kid fingers

What you do:
Take a pinch of the clay and smoosh it around in your hands to warm it up.
Roll a ball and then mold it into the shape you want for your pendant.
Have your child press their finger into it. Repeat with other kids if you have ’em.
Make a hole at the top with a toothpick so you can thread a ribbon or ring through later.
Bake according to instructions.
Done and done.

It’s easy to start over if the fingerprint doesn’t look quite right. We did it a few times to get it looking good. I like how two fingerprints kind of looks like a heart.
I haven’t sprayed it with clear stuff yet, but it’s not a bad idea.
