Why do birds fly into windows? I promise that my sliding glass doors are not clean enough for a bird to think it was air – not even close. And yet they keep flying into them.
Yesterday morning a pretty, red cardinal did this exact thing while we were all sitting right by the door.
Of course, the kids saw it happen and wanted to check the whole situation out. But, it was a devastatingly sad sight to watch. After smacking right into the glass (leaving feathers and a smudge on the door)……it landed upside down and twitching into the freshly fallen several inches of snow. We didn’t think it could breathe since it was head down in the snow. So, brave Kevin got his gloves on and headed out to put the bird right side up. It sat motionless with it’s eyes closed for a good 45 minutes. The kids watched it the whole time. (well, Lucie did. Sam would play and then come back and check in on it) A girl cardinal sat in the tree and waited for him. Lucie said it was his wife. How sweet and sad. I was convinced that it was dead. But, then…. all of a sudden it flew away. Hooray!!
Lucie exclaimed, “Look, God healed him!” I know……Isn’t that cute? But, I don’t think she gets exactly what that means since earlier in the week she also told me, “Look Mom, Daddy just healed me.”…. after he gave her a band aid for her booboo. hehe. 🙂

awww, that’s awful sweet of Lucie! And a good lesson in “Never say die!”
