snickers salad

November 12, 2010 by Erin 7 Comments

What?? It’s a real thing – I swear. (Imagine a caramel apple.) I saw this recipe on Made the other day. (dang-it. I love that blog.) She has a lovely picture tutorial. She takes the prettiest pictures. You should check it out over there.

But, I will give you the basics……

You need:
Granny Smith Apples
Cool Whip
Snickers bars

Chop apples and snickers……try to make them the same small bite-sized pieces. Add Cool Whip and mix it all up. Eat it. Be a hero. I brought it to a family dinner at my brothers house and it was GONE. It is the perfect thing to bring to a party.

I used 5 apples and about 10 fun size Snickers. Next time I will use more Snickers or less apples. 🙂 There wasn’t a piece of chocolate in every bite and I feel like there should be. I read the comments on her blog and many people have made this same recipe with vanilla pudding instead of cool whip – but I really like cool whip.

The other thing I did after reading the comments was to squeeze a lime (i didn’t have a lemon) on the apples after I chopped them. I’m not sure how much juice will keep them from browning – but I used almost the whole lime for 5 apples and that was WAY too much lime. The salad was still gobbled up – but would have been better without all that lime. But, I don’t think brown apples would be very appetizing either. Maybe a lemon wouldn’t taste as tart?

I love this recipe – it’s great for a summery dessert or for fall …since it tastes like a caramel apple. Plus I really enjoy calling something with Cool Whip and Snickers in it a salad!

Hahaha – Kevin acted like I was CRAZY when I was making it. I kept telling him it was a real thing. He acted like it was a nutty southern recipe! Glad to know it made it up north as well!

And you can swap out the snickers for any candy bar you want, right?
