I am LOVING this whole freezer paper method. I made a Conan O’Brien shirt for Kevin a few days ago. It turned out really great – but was a little hard for my first one. Since the moment I found out about this cool process, I have been thinking of what else I can do. Then, as the bird was enjoying her daily dose of ‘Penguins of Madagascar‘, it came to me. A penguin shirt for Lucie. She loves those silly penguins! (OK, so do I)
I took pictures of the whole process – but if you want a better tutorial, go here. This is where I found out how to do it. The lady at the Made site is AWESOME!! Also, this was SOOOO easy. I was completely done, by the time she was finished watching one episode. Seriously, it took me like 15 minutes from start to finish. (Because the bird was watching toons and the bean was taking a nap.)
First, I googled a picture of the penguins and printed it out. Then I put the picture under a piece of freezer paper and cut it out. (shiny side down)
Then I ironed the paper onto the stained shirt.
Then I painted it black. (remember to put a cloth inside the shirt, so it doesn’t bleed through)
Then, I dried it with the blow dryer and peeled the paper off!
Whalaa. Done and done.
I let it dry a little more while we played outside and then ironed it(with a cloth over it) to set the paint. Easy as pie. When I showed the bird, she jumped up and down with glee exclaiming “penguins!!” Perfect!
1) What is freezer paper and where do you get it? I was expecting you to, at some point during the process, put the shirt in the freezer.
2) What kind of paint did you use?
Freezer paper is with all the ziplocks and foil and wax paper at Kroger. I guess you could put the shirt in the freezer if you wanted to. haha. That was funny, Heather. I used matte soft fabric paint by Tulip. It was below all the rest of the regular slick fabric paint at Hobby Lobby on the very bottom shelf.
What a cute idea! I love it!
trying this tonight!
