Ok, so I tried out the homemade dishwasher detergent. Awesome!! It works like a charm. Here is the recipe I used.
1/2 cup of borax
1/2 washing soda
1/4 cup citric acid
1/4 cup kosher salt
And for the rinse agent – instead of the blue dyed chemical one – just fill up the compartment with distilled white vinegar! How great is that?
I got the recipe from DIY Natural. This site is so great! I want to try and make EVERYTHING now! I love to save money and feel a sense of accomplishment. It is so much fun! Addictive even. I feel empowered that I can make these things at home and teach my kids about commercialism and self reliance. As a consumer I am tired of my choices in cleaning products (and food and makeup and shampoo etc) being so full of scary chemicals. It feels good to take back some control and keep these things out of my house as much as I can – all while saving a few dollars. Have you seen “Food Inc.”? Yikes. It’s about food not cleaning products, but it is awesome. Rent it! Hum, next perhaps I will make deodorant!?! I have been saving a cool looking recipe from another blog for a while. We shall see.
hmmmm….good thinking, Zim. Have to check this out.
Yay you!!! I’m so excited to see others getting addicted along with me 😉
