I loooove spring flowers. I mean tulips, daffodils, crocuses, lilies, hyachinths…..I just love them all. Seeing these babies poke out of the ground every Spring just makes me smile. In the past, I’ve always forgotten to plant bulbs in the fall, so I just have to enjoy other peoples little lovelies popping out of the ground. But, I finally remembered to get a few bulbs in the ground last October….I hope they’re doing well under the frozen winter soil. I can’t wait to see them again in a few months.
Of course, my mom loves them as much as I do. She’s from the Netherlands, and that little country produces 60% of the world’s supply of flower bulbs. They just know what they are doing over there. We went on a family vacation to The Netherlands years ago and I must say…..their flowers and gardens and landscaping are SPECTACULAR! My mom’s family lives in Friesland in Northern Holland and it’s one of the largest production areas of flower bulbs. So, it’s just in her blood.
I recently bought these purty red and yellow tulips at our local Kroger. The kids helped me decorate the cool glass pot for Grandmas for Valentines Day. I just gave them a glue stick and some glitter hearts. We wanted to keep it super simple since the glass pot is just so neat. They’re going to make a perfect Valentine’s Day gift for my Dutch mama. And we get to enjoy them on our table for one whole week. haha! win. win. I really LOVE the glass pot. My kids think it’s so cool that they can see the roots and the bulb inside the clear vase.
If you forgot to plant some bulbs in the fall, never fear…..you can always buy yourself some potted bulbs, too. You can find them almost everywhere… garden centers, flower stores or even the grocery store. Enjoy them on your table for a few more weeks and then put those babies in the ground. You can see them again next year. The gift that keeps on giving!
