Whitening Coffee (and Tea and Wine) Stained Teeth at Home {Giveaway}

August 14, 2018 by Erin Leave a Comment

I’m kind of a weirdo.  I can admit it.  For many reasons, but one is……I like going to the dentist.  I mean, I REALLY like going to the dentist. I know some people have a very real phobia.  But, not me.  I love the extra gaps I have after a cleaning.  I love how smooth and shiny my teeth are.  And I LOVE that they can get most of my stains off, just from cleaning my pearly whites.  I mean. I floss and brush daily.  But, I just can’t get them as white and smooth as the dentist can.

I am no Anti-Dentite.  I seriously love going to the dentist.  haha

But, even though I make it to the dentist every 6 months for a good cleaning, my teeth still get stained.  It’s likely because my most favorite drinks are coffee, iced tea and wine.  In that order!  hahaha.

So, they do get dull and stained looking before my next appointment time.  So, what to do?!!  Whiten at home!!  I’ve tried all kinds of toothpastes and trays and strips.  And some work and some don’t.  The trays and strips from the grocery store do seem to work, but leave my teeth SOO sensitive afterwards.  So, I actually quit using them years ago.  The toothpastes kind of just ‘maintain’.  I don’t feel like they make my teeth any whiter, they just don’t get stained as quickly.  I even had a treatment at the dentist once.  They did seem really white afterwards.  Almost too white.  Almost unnatural.  And it was STINKING expensive.

But, I have found a great new way.  And I’m never gong back.  It’s called Smile Brilliant and it’s simple and amazing.  It even comes with desensitizing gel!

When you first order, your box comes to you with with impression trays, mold putty, the whitening and sensitivity gels, easy to follow instruction cards, and the pre-paid mailing envelope to mail the impressions to the lab!

And then you get right to business making your impressions.  It was really interesting.  You make the putty into two balls (the base and the catalyst) and then you mix them together and then press it into the trays.  Then you simply put the tray in your mouth, bite and hold.  Let them harden for a few minutes.  Remove them and then get them in the mail using the included, pre-paid mailer. In a week or two Smile Brillant will ship out your custom-fitted teeth whitening trays.  And when you get them back…. you can start the whitening process right away.

The trays they sent back to me, fit my mouth perfectly.  They are a thin, clear, plastic and nice and flexible.  In fact, they are so clear and flexible that one fell off of my counter and I couldn’t ever find it.  I actually think the dog must have found it, because IT IS JUST GONE!!!!  I am sure he ate it.  He does ridiculous things like that.  I contacted the company and in a few days Smile Brilliant sent me a new one.  They kept my impressions and were able to get a new tray out super fast!

Here are the steps to use with this cool system.

1. Brush your teeth with water (not toothpaste, fluoride slows down the whitening process)

2. Whiten for 45 minutes-3 hours (3 hours max per day!)  I did about 1 hour 2-3 times a week.  For a total of about 8 times.

3. Brush teeth with a non-whitening toothpaste.

4. Rinse trays out with cool water.

5. Desensitize for 20 minutes (do not drink or eat for 1 hour after each session).  I had no sensitivity at all.  I used the desensitize gel the first time, but I skipped it for the remained sessions.

6. Remove trays, but do not rinse your mouth or brush your teeth, just spit (leave a thin layer of desensitizing gel on your teeth).

7. Sleep! It is the best to whiten before bed so you are not introducing any staining food or drinks.  I also did not do this.  I whitened after breakfast and not at night.

1 gel syringe is 3-4 full applications (covering both the upper and lower teeth).

To obtain the best results, avoid consuming coffee, tea, dark colored soda, red wine, berries, candy, red sauces, beets, chocolate or any other foods that have a propensity to stain your teeth for 24 hours after a teeth whitening session. This will help your whitening process!

So, how does it work.  I love the way my teeth look.  I have gotten compliments of people noticing that they are white.  So, that’s good.  They look great and natural, not weirdly white.  I like that the trays fit my teeth so well and that the gel really stays on my teeth.  I love that my teeth don’t hurt afterwards.

Here are my before and after pics.  So bright and shiny!
