If you’ve ever lived in the Cincinnati area (Or Columbus, Dayton, Lexington or Louisville for that matter) than you know about the deliciousness that is a Frisch’s Big Boy sandwich…. with fresh onion rings dipped in tangy tartar sauce. Mmmm. When I lived out of state and would come home for visits, it was the first meal I would have upon arrival. Yum!
I do have a special place in my heart for Frisch’s because my FIRST JOB EVER was as a server there. I’m going to try and find a picture of that special time to share with you. You’re going to love it! The uniform was really not the best look for anyone, especially a teenage girl. Think …a lot of polyester, an ankle length wrap skirt, a bowtie and panty hose with gym shoes! Good stuff!
Luckily Frisch’s is smart and changing with the times. Those vintage uniforms made way to newer and nicer ones and now even those are being updated! Frisch’s is getting a MAKEOVER!
The Covington location got the ball rolling and was updated first, but changes will be happening to more locations coming up soon.
I went to check out the Covington location and you must go! There are so many cool changes inside and out. They boast a new menu with fresh, awesome pictures of all the food, including the brand new menu items!
The counter is still there! Even though they’re updating to a more modern look, they’re still maintaining the retro diner feel. And I think they are doing it well.
Big Boy himself got in on the makeover action. He’s the same iconic lovable guy, but with no burger, because they have so much more than burgers. Now he’s hip and looking right at you!
Local artists were hired to create the art on the walls which will vary by location with lots of special neighborhood touches.
They found that people really LOVE their own neighborhood Frisch’s. It’s true. I think it’s neat that they are adding this aspect after finding how much people identify with their own neighborhood locations. So, each Frisch’s will be the same but with a little bit of individuality.
They also have a great new food promise that’s right up front and center when you walk in.
They’ve added a fun kids area for coloring. And they can hang up their art with giant Big Boy and “F” magnets. My kids are going to love this.
The booths got a modern update and I am in love the Edison bulbs in the lamps!
All these cool up dates brining good ole’ Frisch’s into the 21st Century with style….but, what about the food? Valid question. 🙂 I’ll tell ya.
All of your favorites are still on the menu with some new extras, and even the salad bar got a clever update.
Chef Greg cooked up a new signature salad that you can make yourself right from the bar!!! They marked all the ingredients from the signature salad on the bar with an “F”. How stinking smart is that? If there’s an ingredient in the salad you would like to omit, have at it. Or want extra of something, go for it. Or add something without and “F” and make it your own. Of course! Genius.
Chef Greg Grisanti is on to something. After he came on as the head chef, first, he got rid of all the high fructose corn syrup and preservatives! He uses fresh ingredients and you can tell. He also makes sure that all sauces and dressings are homemade! That’s why they’re all so good for fry dipping!
He also created the deluxe Primetime Burgers that launched in the spring. (Classic, Mushroom Swiss and BLT) And if you haven’t tried those, you need to. They are delicious. They use a brioche bun made by Klosterman just for Frisch’s! So soft and buttery.
He decided to take his newest idea to the west, with the addition of three new Western Barbecue Primetime Sandwiches. They use the same amazing brioche bun. Then he created a new Double B Low’n Slow Barbecue sauce created just for these sandwiches. It’s spicy and tangy and thick. So so good. Get extra for dipping your fries. Or onion rings. Or a spoon.
The new Western Barbecue Primetime Sandwiches come in three styles. Cheeseburger, grilled chicken and crispy chicken. They each feature real premium cheddar cheese, hickory smoked bacon, three big ole’ hand bread onion rings and the new tangy barbecue sauce on a butter-grilled brioche bun.
It’s exciting to see the new direction that Frisch’s is going. Look for updates and changes to your own neighborhood Frisch’s in the months to come. But the Western BBQ Primetime Sandwiches are already there right now! Go and eat one!
