It’s no secret that I love to travel. And I love to eat. Recipes and places to visit are the things I post about the most. And I love to eat like a local when I travel!
On nights when my husband works late and isn’t home to control the remote, there is only one of two channels on for me. Food Network or Travel Channel. Actually, he really likes them, too. We have favorites to watch together on both channels. The Next Food Network Star, Layover, and of course, Bizarre Foods or anything with Andrew Zimmern.
Since I love to travel and we do it every chance we get, I find it so interesting that millions of Americans have never even left their home state! It might seem extreme, but it’s true. I know that not everyone has had the opportunity to explore this great, big country of ours. Which is why I am so touched by the new series that U.S. Cellular is launching with Food Network and The Travel Channel, called “Big Country.
It’s a series that will seek out every day Americans who for one reason or another have never gone far from home and take them on a trip of a lifetime! And it’s hosted by Andrew Zimmern! Throughout the five-part series, he guides real life U.S. Cellular customers who haven’t gone far from home to see the places and people they’ve only dreamed of seeing. Isn’t that sweet!? I just love that they are giving the unique opportunity to their customers to travel meaningfully for the first time ever.
He takes them to some cool places too. I would love to travel with my own personal guide!
Of course I’ve seen the commercials for Big Country since I watch A. LOT. of Food Network and Travel Channel. And they get me all teary! There is one where this guy calls is papa from Times Square and it just gets me!
I watched the episode in New York City with Julius and I loved it.
Then I felt a little sorry for myself because I visited New York City only once about 10 years ago and I didn’t take very many pictures! SO DUMB! In the episode Andrew Zimmern reminds Julius to use his U.S. Cellular phone to take pictures in Time Square!
Ahhh. I don’t have a single picture of Time Square and I was there!! Darn it. Today I wouldn’t let that happen. Having cell phones these days is awesome! I take pictures of EVERYTHING. Seriously. But, not back then. (I guess I’ll just have to revisit all the places that I didn’t take pictures of!)
So, my advice when you travel….take a TON of pictures. Good thing we all have cell phones.
