One of my biggest fears in life is being stinky. And since I’ve been more active lately it’s on my mind a lot. Oh man, I just don’t want to be the stinky girl. Ahhh.
I’ve been trying to get in shape and lose weight, well, pretty much as long as I can remember. The struggle is real, people! I saw this meme and it made me laugh. Because it’s true.
I would like to look better in clothes. And without clothes. (TMI) But really, my first goal is to be healthy. I really want to run 5Ks with the kids without feeling like I’m going to die.
We joined the Y this year and I’ve been going! YAY! I do Zumba and I look ridiculous and completely uncoordinated, but it’s so much fun!
I got a fitbit. Oh my goodness. It’s my favorite thing. I love keeping track of my steps and competing with family and friends. I find myself taking extra steps where I would have been sitting or standing still before, all because I want to reach the 10,000 a day.
So, naturally, I’ve been sweating more. Because, well, activity makes you sweat…where as sitting on the couch, not so much.
Since I’m trying to make healthy changes for my body, I’ve been thinking a lot about what’s inside the products I use everyday. I’ve read enough to know about the negative effects long term use of products with chemicals and aluminum can have.
We’ve gotten rid of a lot of chemicals in our house over the years and we use natural cleaners. But my deodorant. No. I couldn’t give that up.
Because of the fear. The fear of being stinky! I’ve tried natural deodorant and even crystals before. Nope. Not for me. And then I even made my own deodorant a few years ago. I loved it at first. And it still works for some people. But, the essential oils eventually gave me a rash. So, I went right back to my normal stuff and haven’t looked back. Until now.
I decided with all this activity and sweating I’m doing, I needed to seriously re-evaluate what products I am putting under my arms.
But how does it work? Am I stinky? I just know you are dying to know! 🙂
Well, the good news is that it works. I’m FINE! I’ve been asking everyone around me, “Do I smell?” And the answer is NO! The deodorant WORKS! Really and truly.
I’ve been using it for a little over a week. I’m not going to lie. The first few days were scary. And it took a little bit to get used to the way it feels because I was used to an antiperspirant and this is a deodorant. But, when I think about it…..our bodies are made to perspire. It’s how we get rid of toxins. And I’ve been keeping that IN my body? Gross. So, keep in mind that switching to a natural option takes a little bit of time. It depends on your body, and your unique chemistry, but it needs time to adjust and get rid of the old stuff. I tried three scents until I found my favorite. I tried the unscented first and it was just not enough. I have fallen in love with the lavender. Oh it smells so good. I keep one at home and one in my gym bag so that I can reapply.
If you feel that it would be beneficial for your personal long-term health and wellness goals too, I encourage you to make the switch. As a bonus, Tom’s of Maine doesn’t use animal testing or animal ingredients. And the packaging is fully recyclable!
