Hi all, It’s Emily again from Nap-Time Creations. I’ve got another easy project for you today. Let’s take a quick walk through the process of turning an adult size tie into a mini kids’ sized tie. We needed to dress my son in all black and white for his Kindergarten concert. I’m way to cheap to get new clothes, so we borrowed pants and a shirt and I put together this tie. The result was adorable!
You will need to start with an adult tie. Grab an old one of dad’s or get one cheap at a thrift shop. Mark where you want the bottom to be {the pin}.
Cut the tie about 3 inches below your mark. You will turn this part into the new tie point. Gather a needle and matching thread. Start by turning up the left side. Make sure to fold up MORE than half. Tack the top with needle and thread.
Now, fold up a 1/2 inch as the photo below shows on the right side.
Fold the right side to form a point in the center of the tie. The point should be a finished edge because of the extra fold.
Sew all fold securely down. The back of the tie will not win any beauty awards, but the front looks great.
In this photo the tie on the left is a tie my husband currently wears, and the one on the right is featured in this kids tie tutorial. I think it looks great from the front.
And here’s a photo of my little guy showing off his stuff at his big Kindergarten Graduation. And posing with his teacher. The tie was just the right size and looked so cute! Of course his shirt didn’t stay tucked in, but I wouldn’t expect a five year old to look very put together!
