We went on a little mini break recently and visited the Kentucky Down Under Adventure Zoo. If you are looking for a fun place to take the kids this summer or are traveling around or even through Kentucky….you need to put this place on your list. It was so much fun! This place is seriously a hidden gem right in the middle of the Bluegrass State.
We all had a blast. It was such an adventure. There is just so much to do. You can watch herding dogs work magic with a flock of sheep. Check out the winged mammals at the Bat House. Visit with the largest marsupials on Earth. Become a roost for Rainbow Lorikeets as you feed them nectar. Have an encounter at one of the animal or bird shows. See if you are the best shot in your group at the Snowy River Range. Pan for gem stones, milk a cow and so much more.
The price of admission to the zoo also includes a tour of the Historic Mammoth Onyx Cave! This active cave has been open since 1922 and is just incredible. It has gorgeous formations including stalactites, stalagmites and cave cauliflower and cave popcorn! The knowledgeable tour guides and the small tour sizes were just perfect. We loved it. The kids loved the lanterns and helmets. Old school!

If you’d like to pet a kangaroo, feed some lorikeets, get up close with some lemurs, see the rare white buffalo, pan for gems, tour an active cave, feed a lamb, milk a cow, or pet an emu then get your self to Kentucky Down Under. It was a great place. We spent most of the day there. Put this place on your bucket list. You won’t be disappointed.
