Hello again! I am Steph from A Little Moore and I wanted to share with you a quick fabric stash busting easy tutorial that is a hit with my kids.
I read some parenting advice once that if a child asks for a bandaid no matter how silly the injury might be to always let them out one on. That struck with me as my kids used to want an ice pack for every little stubbed toe or injuries induced more from embarrassment but that simple act of acknowledgement meant a lot to them.
My kids learned quickly that band aids for real or for fake injuries still hurt when removed so ice packs are their go to comfort item. We have lots of ice packs. Some just with ice, some filled with rice, corn and even dried herbs but they get left out and I end up scrambling for something to wrap up an ice pack or bag of ice in and a towel never seems to cut it. They are not the right size and they don’t close and it just wasn’t meeting our needs.
So, in looking at some old 9×9 inch squares left over from a quilt I thought I could fashion a bag for our ice packs that would be pretty to look at, washable and would fit a variety of ice packs we had as to not apply the cold directly to their sensitive skin.
Here’s what I came up with:
I sewed my squares together and reinforced it with a top stitch, you can just cut our fabric accordingly to the size you need if you are not using scraps!
Next I finished the edges with a simple hem (only the sides that will be exposed)
Next you will take your fabric and fold it down the right side together 2 inches down
Then fold the rest of the fabric up meeting the new top
Sew the sides shut
Turn it inside out
Voile! You are done!
Add your choice of ice pack
Then you can test it on your daughter who all of a sudden as an injury when it more likely resembles embarrassment that she just ruined her freshly painted nails, but I digress. We can always paint her nails again but her knowing that I see and understand her feelings, hopefully that will be earn me future conversations with my girl when the boos boos are too big for band aids!
