I was so excited that I got to attend the recent sold out premiere of “Diana, A celebration” at the Cincy Museum Center.
It was such an amazing event, fir for royalty. My sister also attended and she brought my mom as her guest. So, I brought my dad! It was a really awesome experience to see the exhibit at the premiere with my mom. (aka Princess Diana’s number one fan!) We got the red carpet treatment.
The Cincy Museum Center knows how to throw a party!! For real. (I’m no stranger to fancy events at the museum ….my high school prom was actually at The Union Terminal, too, complete with gorgeous helium balloon arches! 😉 But, ummm, this event was obviously a little more upscale than my prom!)
We had complimentary pictures taken like celebrities and sampled fantastic fancy British inspired food and drinks all night long. The centerpieces on the tables were gorgeous tiaras and crystals. If you ever have the opportunity to attend an event at the Museum Center, do it! It was an incredible evening!
Now on to the exhibit.
Simply amazing. You have to see this Diana, A Celebration exhibit!
This award-winning exhibition about the People’s Princess will conclude it’s 11-year world tour here in the Queen City! The exhibit will close its doors for the final time on August 17, 2014. Seriously, get there!
There are over 150 stunning objects that chronicle Princess Dian’s life. You feel like you are sharing in her many milestones as a young child, a school girl, an athlete, a Kindergarten teacher, a royal bride, a devoted mother, sister and daughter and as the tireless charity advocate and spokeswoman.
This exhibit chronicles the remarkable life and work of Diana, Princess of Wales.
THE DRESS of the Century. Amazing. It was breath-taking to see all of the details of the dress up close. The wedding gown is a romantic, fairy-tale gown made of ivory silk taffeta and lace with a fitted boned, bodice, curved neckline and detailed finish. The gown is hand-embroidered with more than 10,000 tiny mother of pearl sequins and pearls.
I learned that in her efforts to support England’s fashion industry, Diana selected a young unknown British couple, the Emanuel’s, to design her dress. They had only been in business for 7 years at that point. Even after their success, the Emanuel’s insisted on keeping their operation small and every dress is custom-made.
Diana had to have months of rehearsals to practice walking with the heavy 25-foot train. She observed tradition by wearing old antique lace, new silk, a borrowed tiara from the Spencer collection and a small blue bow sewn into the waistband.
THE CROWNS! You can see two of her magnificent diamond tiaras and other priceless family jewels.
THE CLOTHES. More than 25 gorgeous dresses, suits and evening gowns worn by Princess Diana during her public life accompanied by photos and designer details from the events at which the outfits were worn are on display.
THE KISS. There are many pictures, portraits and home movies on display. {My parents couldn’t resist.}
‘The Daughters of the Queen City‘ gallery showcases a city of philanthropists. Just as Diana continues to inspire people globally, The Cincy Museum Center hopes to inspire people locally with this impressive companion gallery. The gallery recognizes a modern city of women leading, giving and caring in addition to the collections of philanthropic Cincinnati women form the 1850’s-1960’s.
Daughters of the Queen City inspires a new breed of princess.
