It feels so GOOD!!
Get your mind out of the gutter! I am talking about the other dirty little word…”EXERCISE!” I know that I might have just lost some you, but you have to admit it. It feels so good! After you’re done that is. Those endorphins are pumping and blood is flowing. Your body is thanking you for taking care of it! It really does feel good to exercise. It’s the getting off the couch, off the floor, off the bed and out the door that is the hardest part. Honestly. The running, squatting, lunging, crunching…although grueling, isn’t the most challenging part about exercising. Just starting is!
I remember one time I was on my spinning bike (which has since been sold because I never used it…except to hang clothes) in my basement and I kept looking over at my couch…it was calling to me I swear! Not an imaginary cookie or cheesecake…a real-sitting right there-taunting me couch. And to be totally honest with you…it won. The most challenging exercise ever…is training your mind that you can and will do it!
So that’s what I have been doing. Training my mind. The conversation goes something like this “30 min. It’s only 30 min. I will be back and will feel good. If I stay home, I will just waste that 30 min. I can do this!” Then I put on my shoes, say it all again, then I go for a little run/walk. I am back in 30 min. or so and I feel so good! I never regret going for a little run. (I call it a run…but really I treat myself to walking quite often. I’m not trying to run a marathon, just trying to feel good and not guilty when I eat ice cream! ) But I have regretted not going. I have regretting letting myself gain weight or feel sluggish and gross.
So for my introductory post at A Bird and A Bean, and not to scare anyone away…. I would like to challenge and encourage you to start today and train your brain. Train it to know that you are strong and that you can exercise!
Start small.
Take 30 min every other day and go. Just do something. Walk. Run, if you’re so bold. Sign up for a league. Just do something in the right direction of doing something.
I’m going to keep running. Where are you going to start? Leave a comment and encourage others to do the same!

It’s about having fun and spending time with those you love, too. Going to the circus with your family can be just as healthy and good for you as running a 5k. Celebrating birthdays and watching your kids laugh is just as healthy for your soul as strength training is for your bones. Be healthy!
