Recipe Round-up :: Rice and Beans
Our church is in the middle of a financial series. They have planned a church wide fast in order to save money so we can invest in some great organizations outside of our church. The families that participate will eat nothing but rice and beans for a week, and then donate the money saved on groceries for that week to organizations outside of our church. I’m SO excited about this fast. I know my family will be challenged mentally, physically and spiritually and I’m looking forward to it! We’re gonna get the heck on out of our comfort zone and try to identify with how 2/3rds of the world’s population eats every single day.
Over 1.2 billion people in the world eat only one cup of rice and one cup of beans per day. That’s for the whole day!! We’re not going to be crazy about it and I will modify by adding some seasonings and veggies to some of our meals. (so as not to send hungry/grumpy 3 and 5 year olds to school…that seems mean since their teachers aren’t the ones signing up for the challenge! haha)
The point of the fast for me, is to live on a simplified diet for a week, feel hunger, be uncomfortable, feel a bond with those who live like this everyday, and save our grocery budget to invest in the kingdom and in others. I LOVE IT! I can NOT wait to see what kind of impact our church is going to have. I’ll share how my family does and how the whole church community does with you at the end. ;)
