the best pizza dough ever recipe and a snowman pizza pie.
My sister always makes her own pizza dough. She’s better than me. We buy frozen pizza, already made. 🙂 And we do like to make our own, but I only when I have the Trader Joe’s dough balls. Recently, we felt like having pizza, but having none in the freezer and no TJ’s dough balls…… I asked her for her pizza dough recipe. It is just so good. Better than delivery, even. With this fabulous dough…. she whips up Calzones, pizza bread, cheesy garlic bread, Stromboli, and of course pizza.
She gave me the fabulous recipe that she has been using for the last year or so. And it came from another blog. Lauren’s Latest. Well, thank you Lauren! Nice work. Head on over to Lauren’s blog for a very good and very detailed tutorial on how to make sure it is just right. (And for a fabulous cheesy garlic bread recipe, too!)
The Best Pizza Dough Ever! Period.
What you need:
1 cup warm water
2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
1 tablespoon honey (or sugar)
2 teaspoons salt
2 tablespoons olive or canola oil
3 cups bread flour
What you do:
In a large mixing bowl, preferably a stand mixer, stir yeast and honey into warm water. Sit for 5-10 minutes or until bubbles form and mixture starts to get foamy. This tells you that the yeast is alive. Pour in salt, oil and half the flour and mix. Once that flour is incorporated, start adding flour in bit by bit until you get the pizza dough to the consistency you want. (slightly tacky, but when you touch it not sticking to your hands.) Once you reach this stage, turn the mixer on high to knead for 6 minutes. Turn a timer on and walk away. Do not stop earlier than 6 minutes! The dough should be smooth and easy to work with. And the bowl should be clean! Lightly grease the bowl & the dough so it doesn’t dry out, cover with plastic wrap and let it rise 1-2 hours. That’s it! Use as desired.
Lauren put a great tip with her recipe, if you don’t have a pizza stone….use an upside down cookie sheet! GENIUS!
I made three circles and we made our pizza into a snowman, which the kids thought was just fabulous! I am really hoping for some more snow this winter so we can make a real snowman out of snow, but a pizzaman is fun too! 🙂
[…] it in. Sometimes we make it ourselves with dough that I buy from here. Usually I make it with this dough recipe, because it makes the most perfect pizza crust ever. And I recently got to review this Emile Henry baking stone. So, it seemed perfect to try this […]
