It’s Spring Break and I am determined to get some more gardening done this week. For the last two years our square foot garden has done great. I really like to use organic compost as a fertilizer for the fruits and veggies that we eat. And I can not wait to get started on that again. But, this year I also wanted to work on our flower beds, too. They were looking pretty sad. So, when I was asked to review and share the all new Expand ‘n Gro™ from Miracle-Grow, I was super excited! My flowers needed serious help!
This stuff is so cool. Pouring water on something and watching it expand is always fun and exciting. The kids really loved that part. It was like magic. And I was the magician! First of all the bag is SOOO light. Carrying around bags of soil and mulch is WORK! But this lightweight bag is a breeze to carry.
Here are some of the benefits of Expand ‘n Gro!
-Up to 3 times the Flower and Vegetables (versus native soil)
-Significantly improves soil for several years
-Planting Mix expands to 3 times its original size when mixed with water (and it’s fun to watch expand)
-Feeds for up to 6 months
-All natural fibers hold up to 50% more water than basic potting soil
I can’t wait to see the results. I’ll have to wait a couple more weeks to see the flowers in full bloom, but I’m already loving that with Expand ‘n Gro, I don’t have to worry much about watering them. Expand ‘n Gro retains up to 50% more moisture and then releases water as the plants need it to prevent over or under watering. Perfect for me because I usually forget for several days to water, and then end up watering too much to make up for it! Last year my peonies got a hideous leaf fungus because of that habit! Whoops.
My favorite part about this stuff….it’s made with coconut!!! SERIOUSLY! Is there nothing a coconut isn’t good for?!? 🙂 All natural coconut coir fiber is at the heart of Expand ‘n Gro™. Coconut coir is derived from the husk and previously used to be disposed of, but it’s now sold as soil amendment. That’s recycling! And coir contains a lot of lignin ( a slowly decomposing organic polymer) so it continues to benefit native soil for multiple years. Improving and maintaining native soil is a daunting task and most soil amendments only last one year. I like that Expand ‘n Gro improves the soil for many years and does it with COCONUT! 🙂 Good stuff.

Wow. I’d like to try this. I am planting new varieties of tomatoes and peppers. Also think I am going to try gourds.

Sounds like a great idea and eco friendly. My husband and daughter share in the gardening gene so they handle all outside gardening. If it were left to me, we’d never have any fresh produce! They are planting, tomato, squash, lettuce, okra, bell peppers, strawberries, and maybe potatoes this year. Would love to get them started with a new miracle gro product! Thanks for the opportunity!
