Did you know ……
“All of the foods in the Trader Joe’s name are made without artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives. They have no MSG, no added trans fats, no genetically modified ingredients and no high fructose corn syrup. We buy directly from the manufacturer whenever possible, and we cut out all the added costs that tend to drive up the price of supermarket foods – things like bid ad budgets, coupons and slotting fees. We keep it simple. Good food, great prices. Every day.
In addition to sourcing all of its store brand products from Non-GMO ingredients, which it began in 2001, TJ’s began to source in 2005 all of its store brand eggs from cage-free hens. In 2010, the retailer announced that it had committed to sourcing all of its seafood purchases to sustainable sources by December 31, 2012. This applies to all formats of seafood that it offers: frozen, fresh, and canned.”

I love knowing that when it says Trader Joe’s (or Trader Giotto’s, or Trader Jose’s) I’m buying something with no GMOs, no high fructose corn syrup and no MSG (among other nasty things) AND I’m not spending an arm and a leg.
OK – onto the list. 🙂
I seriouslyADORE all the hummus there. I’m always disappointed when I run out and have to buy hummus at Kroger. The cilantro one is my favorite and I usually buy I usually buy two of them and throw one in the freezer. Yes, it’s that good. I’ve also been loving the 3 layered one lately….but it’s all gone…..so there’s no picture. 🙂
Again, I usually buy a few so I can keep one or two in the freezer. I use them for everything…pizza, breadsticks, calzones, stromboli, and most recently pull apart pizza bread.
These are so crispy and flakey and unique. You gotta try them.
Phosphate and Formaldehyde free and smells like lavender.
It’s natural and fluoride free.
The kids like it, since it’s not minty (spicy). I’ve bought the mint flavor before but for some reason it’s really hard to squeeze out. I like this one better.
I love all of their seasons too! Amazing flavors…our favorite is the Smoked African season. SO good on with grilled food. Mmm!
I went to TJs this past weekend and picked up some of their creamy plain hummus, so good! I just love that place. I need to try those tortillas.
Sorry to inform everyone but a third of the products at Trader Joes has MSG (glumatic acid) in one form or another in them. I have been getting migraines from MSG for about 25 years, so I’m an expert in reading labels. Go to this site and educate yourself becauswe the gov. or food manufacturers won’t. http://www.truthinlabeling.org/ and go to http://www.truthinlabeling.org/hiddensources.html
Just a follow up. The products that I am talking about are the canned and packaged items. I haven’t read every product label in the store but what I have read, it seems to be about a third that may contain some potential form of glumatic acid in them (flavorings, autolized yeast etc.). So, I stay away from them even if they may not cause a reaction or amount may be to small to cause a reaction. It’s the same type of labeling in all grocery stores. http://www.truthinlabeling.org/hiddensources.html
Jerry, thanks so much for the information.
I always trusted Trader Joe’s products, but realized I need to look more closely at their ingredients. For example, their “organic lemonade” contains aspertame in it, who would have thought?
Yummmm…organic aspertame. Tastes like milk. haha. Gross. Thanks for the heads up.
