The kids and I made SLIME yesterday. Creating polymers is a perfect rainy day activity don’t ya think? haha I ran into this idea on Pinterest (shocker, I know) and I remembered making it when I was younger. You could even buy it…..remember Nickelodeon GAK? awe – good old 80’s.
It really is sooo much fun. I think I like it just as much as the kids do and they thought it was AMAZING!
The best part is I even had all the ingredients on hand! Borax might not really be an everyday ingredient, but it should be – you can do SOOO much with that versatile stuff. You gotta get some!
What you need:
Warm water
Elmer’s glue (I’ve read reviews….and Elmer’s works the best for some reason)
Food coloring
Borax
What you do:
1. Mix together 1/2 cup warm water, 1/2 cup Elmer’s glue, and food coloring. Stir thoroughly and set aside.
2. Mix together 3/4 cup warm water and 2 teaspoons Borax in another bowl.
3. Stir thoroughly until Borax is dissolved. Pour this mixture into glue mixture, and watch the magic unfold. It makes a strange, slimy, globby mass. Keep stirring. There will be extra liquid in the bowl. That’s OK.
4. Remove glob from bowl and work in your hands for 2 to 3 minutes. It will be slimy and wet at first. It becomes dry to the touch after you work with it for a few minutes.

Then you can hold it, roll into a ball, let it ‘drip’ through your hands, let it become an oozing lake for your animals, hide your toys in it and then break it up to find them. Fun. fun. fun! You can even stuff it into a small cup and it makes funny, inappropriate noises. 🙂

Store in an air-tight container.
If your slime starts to dry out, pour a small amount of water over it and knead it for a few minutes.
Every kid needs a little Slime! What a fun thing to do on that rainy day. Is there a kid who doesn’t love that kind of thing?? Thanks for the recipe.
we are thinking about giving this away to our little cousins for christmas!

This was great! First try flopped because we didn’t stir the first step good enough – make sure you stir stir stir the glue, water and food coloring!
THanks SO much for sharing. I did this with 5 kids ranging in age from 7-3yrs old. They ALL LOVED this activity!
